Thursday 27 May Sandstone Estates Day 4

The short session on Thursday morning was scheduled to feature a Class NG4 locomotive that had been built for suburban use in the Port Elizabeth area in 1913.
This locomotive put in an appearance, but all was not well and it was unable to continue, being replaced by yesterday’s NG15.
Australians (and others) should note the eucalyptus trees that have been planted in profusion in many parts of South Africa.

In the late morning we left Sandstone for the last time and set off on the coach journey to Creighton in KwaZulu-Natal. On the way we stopped for lunch at Harrismith which has a striking Dutch Reformed church.
